Tony Leys and Jeff Eckhoff report on the Des Moines Register’s  victory yesterday in Broadlawns Medical Center v. Des Moines Register and Tribune Company. (See our earlier coverage here.)

The Muscatine Journal’s Mike Ferguson reports on a recent speech by Chief Justice Cady on the Judicial Branch’s budget issues.

And Chad Nation of the Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil covers Justices Wiggins and Waterman’s recent talk to a group of 50 students at Iowa Western Community College. Of interest to prosecutors, criminal defense attorneys, and law enforcement in the State, the Justices told the crowd that search and seizure law will be a “big issue facing the court now and in the future.” That comes as no surprise to those who have been watching the new Court.  Since Justices Waterman, Mansfield, and Zager took the oath last year, some of the sharpest disagreements amongst the seven justices have been over this topic, with State v. Pals and State v. Lowe being of particular note.
