Court Strikes Down “Steel Wheel” Ban

The Iowa Supreme Court has just released its decision in Mitchell County v. Zimmerman.  The Court unanimously ruled that Mitchell County’s ban on using steel wheels on the road violates the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.  The ordinance was challenged by the Members of the Old Order Groffdale Conference Mennonite Church, who are forbidden from driving tractors unless their wheels are equipped with steel cleats.
